2014 J/Fest Southwest report

Lakewood Yacht Club again hosted J/Fest Southwest in 2014, marking the 5th annual J/Fest Southwest regatta.  They did their usual fine job hosting and also served their signature shrimp and sausage boil for the Saturday dinner.  Fort Worth Boat Club was well-represented with 6 boats present and club members on another two boats out of 57 total boats.  Bryan and Vicki Dyer took their boat Rum Line and Mark Smith took his After Midnight to compete in the J/24 fleet, with Rum Line finishing in 4th place and After Midnight just behind them in 5th.  Mark Masur competed in the J/105 fleet with his boat Two Feathers and had the best results of the regatta, taking home 1st place.  FWBC’s largest representation was in the J/70 fleet with three boats, Jim Mitchell’s Boomtown with Scott Lindley crewing for him, Jason Bradley’s Texas Chrome with John Hardesty and Rob Karov crewing for him and Bruno Pasquinelli’s Stampede.  Bruno, Jason, and Jim finished in 2nd, 9th, and 11th respectively.

Matt Arno and several of his Blue Flash crew (Scott Hurst, Tiffany O’Kelley, Heath Power, Laura Grunewald) crewed on the J/109 Pole Dancer, which finished in 4th.  Jeff Keller, Ben and Kitra Gray also provided half the crew on the J/122 Second Star which finished in 2nd in the J/Asym PHRF fleet.
