Camp Programs and Experience Levels
What age groups are the camp programs open to?
FWBC offers camps for ages 4-15.
4-7 year olds – Little Dogies camps
8-15 year olds – Sailing and Adventure camps
What is the Learn to Sail vs Junior Race Team Camp?
The Learn to Sail Camp is designed for campers who are new to sailing or who enjoy the fun, social side of camp. Campers will learn the basic skills of sailing in a supportive, low-pressure environment that emphasizes fun rather than competition.
The Junior Race Team Camp, new this summer, is designed for sailors who have attended camp before or who are ready to learn in a sailing-intensive style camp. This camp focuses on sailing efficiently and introduces the fundamentals of racing, including how to sail a race course. Campers will be assigned an Optimist dinghy to use throughout the two-week session and will learn the skills and knowledge needed to get started on the FWBC Junior Racing Team.
Is prior sailing experience required?
No prior experience is required! We love teaching sailing to beginners! If you have sailing experience, we will continue developing those skills during sailing camps. If you are interested in your camper sailing more than just the summer? Check out our Junior Racing Team that races and practices all year long.
What type of boats will be used in the programs?
FWBC has a variety of club-owned equipment for campers. Sailboats include J22s, Sunfish, Flying Juniors, Optimist Cubes, and a Capri 16. We also have kayaks and paddleboards, which we use to play games and explore on light wind days.
The Junior Race Team campers will be assigned a club-owned Optimist that they will learn and train in for the 2-week camp session.
